Custom vinyl restaurant banners designed by Dover Sign Shop

Why Order Through Dover Sign Shop Instead of an Online Banner Site

I’m Taylor, and I’ve been handling custom banner printing and sign work in the West Dover / Mount Snow area of Vermont for 17 years — 11 of them running the sign shop at Mount Snow ski resort, and the last 6 running Dover Sign Shop out of Wilmington, Vermont.

I handle every banner order personally — no template builders, no call centers, no waiting days for a basic question. When you call, you talk to me. When you email, I reply. Pricing is competitive with the big online banner sites, and shipping is free via FedEx Express anywhere in the continental U.S.

Custom Vinyl Banner Materials: 13oz, 15oz, 18oz, and Mesh

13 oz vinyl — the standard. Durable, weather-resistant — the standard choice for outdoor banners and multi-season event use. Good for 2-3 years outdoors. If you’re not sure which to pick, this is the default.

15 oz vinyl — thicker and tougher than 13 oz. A good middle ground for banners that will be up multiple seasons or take heavier wind exposure.

18 oz vinyl — about 40% thicker than 13 oz. Built for long-term outdoor banners and high-wind environments like construction fencing or multi-year building signage.

Mesh vinyl — the right call for fences and windy spots. Perforations let wind pass through so the banner doesn’t tear loose or blow out grommets. Solid vinyl on a fence acts like a sail.

Every banner comes with heat welded edges (stronger than hemming) and grommets as standard. No upcharge for finishing. Wind slits, pole pockets and double sided available.

File Prep & Layout Options

There are three ways most people send me a banner job. The first two are included at no charge.

1. Print-ready file — Free. Already have a finished design? Send it over. I’ll check the file, prep it for print, and get it moving. No charge.

2. Logo plus basic text — Free. Have a logo and need a straightforward layout around it? Logo plus your phone number, address, sale message, or event details — that kind of simple layout is included at no charge. Most of my banner orders fall into this category.

3. Custom design work — Quoted separately. Anything with custom graphics, illustration, photo editing, multi-element layouts, or original artwork is real design work. If you’ve seen banners with custom illustrations, scenic backgrounds, or layered design elements, that’s this category. I’ll always tell you upfront whether your project is included or quoted, and quotes are based on the actual work involved — usually fair and reasonable.

If your logo is low-resolution, you’ve got two options:

  1. Use it as-is. If the resolution holds up at your banner size, we’ll work with what you’ve got. On a large banner viewed from a distance, a lot of logos look fine.
  2. Get it vector-traced. Professional vector tracing can be anywhere from $15-$75 depending on complexity, and you keep the vector file — which will print cleanly at any size, on anything, forever. I typically outsource this to The Vector Doctor. You can contact him directly if you prefer, or I can send your logo off for you.

      How Ordering Works

Once you know what you need, use the calculator above for a price or call/text for a quote on anything custom. Payment is due upfront before I start on design or production — this keeps things simple and lets me prioritize active orders. I accept credit card, debit, or check. Once payment is in, I’ll get to work on your layout or proof, send it over for approval, and get the banner moving.

      Turnaround and Shipping

Once your design is finalized and the proof is approved, your banner typically ships within 1-2 business days. FedEx Express delivers about 80% of orders in 2 business days after it ships — so an order placed Monday often lands Wednesday or Thursday.

Need it faster? Call or text (802) 753-6509. I can almost always squeeze in a rush job.

      Every order includes:

      • Free proof before printing
      • Hemmed edges and grommets standard
      • Free FedEx Express shipping, continental U.S.
      • No account, no minimum, no hidden fees

        Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between 13 oz, 15 oz, and 18 oz vinyl?

Thickness and durability. 13 oz is the standard — good for 2-3 years outside. 15 oz is the middle tier, better for multi-season outdoor use. 18 oz is about 40% thicker than 13 oz and built for long-term installations and high-wind environments.

How long do vinyl banners last outdoors?

13 oz typically holds up 2-3 years in New England weather. 15 oz gets you 3-5 years. 18 oz can last 5+ years. UV exposure and wind are the main factors.

        Do you charge for design?

Basic layout work — placing your logo with text like a phone number, address, or event details — is included. Real design work (custom graphics, illustration, photo editing, original artwork) is quoted separately based on the actual work involved. I’ll tell you upfront which category your job falls into.

What’s the biggest banner you can make?

Seamless up to 16′ × 150′. For anything larger than what is shown on the calculator call (802) 753-6509 for quote.

Can I get a banner in less than a week?

Often yes. Once the file is ready (typically same or next day for simple layouts) and approved you should have it in two business days as long there are no delays with FedEx. Rush production is available. Call (802) 753-6509 to confirm timing for your specific job.

Will I see a proof before printing?

Always. Nothing prints until you approve a proof. If it needs changes, we change it.

What file format should I send my logo in?

A high-resolution JPG, PDF, or vector file (AI, EPS) is ideal. If all you have is a low-res logo, send it anyway — I’ll tell you whether it’ll work as-is or whether vector tracing is worth it. Professional vector tracing typically runs $15-$75. I outsource to The Vector Doctor, and you can contact him directly or have me handle it for you.

        What finishing options are available?

Every banner comes with heat welded edges and grommets as standard — no upcharge. I also offer wind slits, pole pockets (top, bottom, or both), and double-sided printing. Just let me know what you need when you reach out.

When do I pay for my banner?

Payment is collected upfront before I start on design or production. I accept credit card, debit, or check. This keeps the process simple and makes sure your order stays on the priority list.

Why mesh instead of solid vinyl on a fence?

Wind. Solid banners on a fence act like a sail and will tear themselves loose in a storm. Mesh lets the wind through. For solid banners in a windy spot, wind slits are another option — small cuts that let air pass through.

Do you ship outside New England?

Yes. Free FedEx Express shipping anywhere in the continental U.S. About 80% of orders arrive in 2 business days after shipping.

Can I pick up my banner locally?

Yes — if you’re in the Wilmington area, you can save the shipping and pick up locally.

Do you make other signs besides banners?

Yes — Dover Sign Shop also does yard signs (coroplast), aluminum signs (.080), CNC routed HDU, PVC, wood, vehicle graphics, perforated window graphics and pretty much any type of custom sign or lettering. If you need something that isn’t on this page, just ask.

Why would I order through you instead of Signs.com or Vistaprint?

Pricing is competitive with the big sites, but you get something they can’t offer — a real person handling your order. When you call, you talk to me. When you email, I reply. No tickets, no tier-one support, no template builder. Same shop, same person, every time.
